Hoshino Coffee

On one of the rare weekends I have in August, the boy and I went on a movie date.
Really cannot find time to watch movies this month and I don't know why.
Time flew by.
We also had lesser time together doing café hopping spending time doing things together. So we made it a point to have a date!

Finally tried Hoshino Coffee. Whenever I passed by Plaza Singapura, it's always crowded. So, this time, we met slightly early and went to the new outlet at Capitol Piazza.

This is the reason why I wanted to try Hoshino Coffee - their hand drip coffee.
I got a little shock when it was served with a small cup of milk.
The coffee looked so black, how could this tiny amount of milk be sufficient?!
I took a sip of black, and it was really bitter and sour after taste.
As I poured the milk, I realised the coffee immediately became lighter in colour.
So I stopped at half. I was surprised that amount is enough already.
The coffee tasted so much better and nicer.

Tried their French toast - Warning, the white ball is not ice cream but a ball of cream!
Not exactly my favourite.

This! The ordinary looking tomato omu rice. I had my first bite, and I loved it. The egg was so soft and bouncy. The rice tasted fragrant and not overly sweet.
Would totally come back for this!
Haven really tasted a tomato fried rice so nice. :):)

My 29th with my girls

Ah. Finally having some time to myself. August is a super busy month and with elections coming, even more busy.
Just had the worst day of the year -surgical wisdom tooth extraction and now on my bed resting and semi-awake.

My birthday with my all time long girls was a simple affair at Changi City Point.
Because it was a long weekend, and knowing everywhere else in town will be crowded, we decided to go Changi City Point the almost extreme end of Singapore. Weirdly, it was actually quite crowded as well... guess some of them has the same sentiment.

We settled for Shabu-sai, Japanese buffet.
The service isn't great, I think they are short handed. We had to top up the soup by ourselves. And the meat came slow. Order more at one shot so that no need to keep calling the waiter.

We did a super auntie activity thereafter (Aging I told'ya). We went to NTUC to do grocery shopping! Not because we have chalet ... just stocking up cause I had "free SG50 money" to spend.
Went to Starbucks for girls talk until like 11plus when it's closing already.

And a group photo with so many retakes because of that candle. haha...

Thank you my dear girls for the celebration and the gift!

My 29th

My actual day celebration was with the boy! It was just a simple dinner after work. Didn't bother to take leave or do anything special since it was a long weekend right after that.

He brought me to Pasta Brava located at 11 Craig Road. Near Tanjong Pagar.
Have absolutely no idea that this place is recommended for Italian pasta!
I wonder how he got this. So ulu... haha...

But when I stepped in at 7pm, the place is almost full! Wow!
He mentioned booking is a must. Ok, I get it.

The place is furnished with wooden decors and dim lights, it really does seem like an authentic Italian house and it gives me a homely feel.
The waiters wear vest/ jackets even. I glanced around me, many are well dressed and no jeans in sight! Wines are ordered and people are slowly enjoying their food.

We took quite some time to order because the types of pasta were too many!
And of course, we spent more time reading the menu as the name of the food are all in Italian... haha..

After ordering, we were able to scribble on the table! Chalks were provided on every table.
He started drawing.... :) and I added along the way... hehe...

We order appetizer - black pepper Portobello mushroom.
Don't let the picture deceive you. It does taste good. Juicy yet tender.

For my main course, I order their handmade pasta selection. I just chose one with tomato base and with salmon... and it came like that. hahaha...
The salmon is stuffed inside the pasta. Every one of the coin looking pasta is filled with lots of salmon, and very nice!

The boy also ordered something safe. Seafood spaghetti pasta.
The portion is huge.
I preferred mine as the tomato taste is thicker and the pasta is softer.

Desserts were ordered... and we continued drawing again....

Molten lava cake. In love with this... Not too sweet and the chocolate is very smooth.

He presented my gift after dinner... which I knew what was it because he gave me a theme this year.
To tell each other what he/she wants for present. and must be something that can be bought (physical touch) and kept minimum 3months.
So in the end, I told him to get a silver watch for me. I'll never complain having too many watches. hehe...

We took a stroll after that and went home. Before he went home, he passed me a bag with a beautiful box inside. Had absolutely no idea what it was and when I opened it, I was in awe!
Never have I expected he would do something so challenging... haha..
I wanted to do this but guess he was a step ahead of me...
:):):)

Thank you for the amazing gift. And of course, always being here for me whenever times are down.
Loves.

Celebration in style at Ippin

Happy Birthday to myself!
This month is full of eating activities because of all my dear friends who wanna treat me!
Tell me how to diet?!
Weirdly, this year I have this feeling of not celebrating... I would prefer just simple dinner and drinks and that's all. No activities or whatsoever. Probably signs of aging. haha...
Nonetheless, I'll try and stay young and enjoy my last twenties! *GASPS*

My first birthday treat was by the Bananas!
I was treated to Ippin Café Bar located at Mohamed Sultan Road. It is a Japanese home-syle dishes with a mix of western.  The place feels very authentic Japanese feel - simple minimalist concept with a shelf selling some Japanese wine, food, and condiments. It's not a very big place so it wont be noisy even if it's full house.

I had the Oyakodon set which is a huge portion for me!
It is a recommended dish here, and it was really delicious. I like the egg that is not so ripe and still gluey, and enough for the rice as sauce!
The chicken is also tender and chunky.

The boys had the beef set - which is of western fusion. The fries is so-so only, and the beef is slightly tougher. It doesn't have any sauce because you can choose your own sauce from the table and create your liking.

This is also one of their signature, the fried oyster. It is really nice!!!

Glad to have met this couple in my life. :)

The free dessert that they provide, this is soya pudding... which is not my liking because it's too milky for me. But the rest like it though.

My handmade present! I love such stuffs! hehe.. cause that's just me. I like personalised items. :)
We have gone so far....

Such a pretty shoebag!!!

Next, I was treated to a damn shiok and relaxing place!

Celestial Sanctuary is located at Orchard, but it is quite affordable!

We had 2 connecting rooms for our leg massage.

It also provides a TV with movies/ KTV/ games etc. Honestly, the massage is quite good and the ambience is quite shiok too.
GGH end up getting a package from them! This means... I get to go massage often! Yay!!!

What you do live for.

Finally, whatever has been owed to him has been cleared, and everything between us has also been closed.
No longer do I need to contact him or whatsoever.

---- The end. ----

I have also tendered from my current company, and moving on to hopefully a more challenging role. Hope I can take up the challenge. I doubt myself initially, but I guess, I have to face this sometime.
Because you believe in me, I pray I will not disappoint.
It will be a whirlpool last quarter for me, but let's see to it.

I do pray that life will be kinder to me now that the tough times have passed.

Goodwood Park High Tea Buffet

Last week, I took an urgent leave to settle some stuff, then had some free time during the afternoon.
Decided to make act like tai tai and go for high tea!
Popped by Goodwood park for their high tea buffet at L'espresso. It's a buffet line so it is all replenishable. However, for drinks, it is only 2 drinks.

They do have quite a wide spread - pastries, baked items, fried items, bread, scones.

I love their pastries with those little seafood stuff on top.
My favourite is actually the one in the centre, salmon!

This is some beef stuff that is very good!!!

Shepard's pie, lasagne, pipraka chicken, crab something.
The pipraka chicken is damn good that I went and get 2nd round.

So-so tuna croissant. I think I like Delifrance better.

The desserts! There are a lot of other items but I only took these lah.
And everything on this plate is damn good. Got standard chocolate!

The English tea buffet starts from 2-5.30pm on Mon-Thursday.
$45 per person. :)

Had a good 2 hrs catching up with a friend and enjoying my rest of the day off.
Damn shiok until I felt like taking somemore leave.
It's been a long long time since I took leave just to relax in SG. Also keep my leave for overseas trip.
Maybe soon, I'll probably just do that ;)
Keeping my fingers crossed for something more exciting!

Dazzling Cafe Singapore

Finally, after trying for 2 attempts, I did get to try Dazzling café newly opened in 2015.
I went there around late afternoon twice and the queue was just too long.

Today, after collecting our Shape Run race pack, we decided to go and queue.
We were the first! haha... Right after us there were 3 other couple who came shortly and the time was only 11.40am.

Note: It's only open at 12PM.
Located at Capitol Piazza, there's a new entrance from the underground at City Hall MRT.

Everywhere seem instagram worthy! Didn't really take a lot of photos as we were talking non-stop. hahaa.. It was so good to catch up!

Food wise, we order the aglio olio with scallops and crabmeat.
It was fragrant because the garlic was very crispy. Not the usual garlic smell.
It wasn't too oily as well, unexpectedly taste good!

Next is Spicy Seafood Tomyum Tomato, which states Singapore's exclusive. Guess maybe Taiwan don't have...
This does taste a bit of spicy, and a little over sourish because of the Tomyum.
But the sauce really does taste great.
In fact, I think this is better than the Aglio Olio!

And of course, desserts!!! We ordered the Mango and Coconut Gelato Honey Toast.
It's similar to Shibuya, the toast is a thick block with butter.
Inside it, it has already pre-cut cubes for convenience eating.
There's different level of your toast - Soft, Normal, Crispy.
We took the normal and it was already crispy. So for starters if you haven been there, better take normal cause later crispy may end up too hard for you...

Personally, I prefer After You in Bangkok than this, but locally, I think this is the closest you get to eat a good honey toast.
Too bad the walls of the toast is not crispy to eat, and there's not enough mango sauce and mango itself.

I would definitely come back again if I have no Bangkok trips anymore.. hahaha

I had a happy brunch with my dear Sylvia!!! :)
*foodcoma*

Siem Reap: Stay where, Eat what, Do what

Back for the last tiny bit of Siem Reap... Essentials...

STAY

There are many different small hotels in town, not much high rise building hotels around.
We restricted our budget because in Cambodia, most hotels are not expensive. A comfortable 3 star probably cost around USD 30 per room per night, which to me, is one of the cheapest around Asia!

Of course you can choose 5 star hotels but we opted for a mid range and near to the volunteer place.

Frangipani Villa Hotel is located approximately 5min walk to the night market.
It is a decent room like a normal hotel, with a swimming pool.
Its surrounding outside the hotel is spacious and decorated in baby blue against the wooden furniture.
Quiet environment.
However, as the period that we go was the worst timing with super hot sun, about 39 degrees, most aircon didn't felt like aircon. We had to keep the aircon running the whole day so then the sleep at night is better.
We actually changed room because our aircon was worst than our friend's. Their service was very prompt and changed for us immediately.
Please test the aircon first.
Unfortunately, the bed isn't very comfortable.

On our last 2 nights, we changed hotels as we wanted to explore different hotels.
We walked further down the street and went into Reflections Art Boutique Hotel.
This hotel, is unique by the way they decorate each room.

In fact, they let us choose the rooms we want, like what theme we wanted to stay in.
This hotel is smaller than Frangipani in terms of the land area. The swimming pool is also much smaller.

For the room itself, my theme was a forest theme located at the first floor.
As usual, the aircon isn't strong for the crazy weather, just like the first hotel. You have to keep it on the whole day. And they understand because they know it's super hot outside.
I prefer this hotel because its bed is more comfortable, thicker mattress.

One of our friend stayed inside this Barbie doll theme. Didn't dare to go in because I think it's scary.
Outside already all Barbie doll heads...

EAT

Khmer food is their traditional cuisine. Their famous dish is AMOK, cooking curry in banana leaves and with coconut cream.
Below is an AMOK set we tried along the night market.
It has fish, chicken, pork, and shrimp. All with different types of curry.
It does taste very similar to Thai food, just that this is probably less spicy and more sweet.
Also, in most restaurants, most dishes that you order comes with a set of rice. So, please tell them if you don't need the rice. It's ALOT.

Do try at least once if you are in Cambodia, their local Khmer food.

Another local street food, and it's super local because it's slightly far out. You need to hire/ book a tuk tuk to bring you there and back because over there, all tuks tuks are already hired.
and it's tough to get one.
It's called Road 60. Over there, it's a huge pasar malam where you see many other local food.
The local brought us there for the very nice "laksa".
Its like laksa except that the curry is like thai green curry.
Doesn't look appetizing, but it's really surprisingly delicious!
Just go towards a road where you see people are seated down on mats.
We went to this auntie because the local tried most stalls and found hers the best. haha...

When she scoop the curry, it looks very dry, but just mix with the noodle and the gravy will start coming out.

Like this!

Another local food is this kuey called "non ba chang"..
I cannot really describe what is the ingredient, but it's really nice with the sauce.
We couldn't have enough that the local had to go get another box.

Do cater about 2-3 hrs to walk the whole street, and eat along the way. :)

Upstairs Café
Located along Wat Bo road, very near to Reflections Art Boutique Hotel.
Supposedly they serve good coffee and cakes here, but because of the unforgiving weather, we couldn't bring ourselves to drink coffee.
Hence, we order cooling drinks - imagine ME, drink coke?! Tell you, shiok. haha..
That aside, we ordered their popular chocolate cake which is good! Not too sweet!
The texture is like brownie.
If you have free time to pass, you can sit and surf net using their free wifi.

Blue Pumpkin

Blue Pumpkin is located along Hospital Street. Next to the Provincial hospital.
Or, you can always ask the locals, they know where it is. This place is just too famous already.
They have bakery and some food, but what's famous is their ice cream.
I think the ice cream business in Siem Reap is definitely earning big bucks. The weather is too hot that everyday I wanna eat ice cream. haha

I tried their dark chocolate and mango sorbet, it's great! I tasted the durian but didn't really like it.

Slightly further down the blue pumpkin, across the street, there is a Gelato Lab.
This place is heaven. My favourite chill out place.
Their ice cream, I prefer to blue pumpkin.
Most of all the flavours are good too. They have one section flavours with milk and one without milk. I love their fruits flavour (without milk) - Mango, Lime (super refreshing!) and their dark chocolate.
Before we came back home, I had to purposely go over and have my last cup so satisfy myself. haha.
Please try this!!!
Their coffee, is great too! I tried their blend from Guatemala. :)

One of the special activities we did was the horse riding at The Happy Ranch.
All their horses were very well groomed!
We took the Countryside and village ride where we rode out to the village where you can see people living there with rice fields and also animals they grow for milking and other food cultivation.
We got to ride to sunset so its a beautiful scenery to admire.
We also learnt the basics to ride a horse! Like how to stop the horse, tell the horse to go left or ride, and to gallop!!!
But the galloping hurts my butt. haha...
Siem Reap may not be the place where people think of horse riding, but here, scenery is different, and prices are more affordable than elsewhere.
