Hoshino Coffee

On one of the rare weekends I have in August, the boy and I went on a movie date.
Really cannot find time to watch movies this month and I don't know why.
Time flew by.
We also had lesser time together doing café hopping spending time doing things together. So we made it a point to have a date!

Finally tried Hoshino Coffee. Whenever I passed by Plaza Singapura, it's always crowded. So, this time, we met slightly early and went to the new outlet at Capitol Piazza.

This is the reason why I wanted to try Hoshino Coffee - their hand drip coffee.
I got a little shock when it was served with a small cup of milk.
The coffee looked so black, how could this tiny amount of milk be sufficient?!
I took a sip of black, and it was really bitter and sour after taste.
As I poured the milk, I realised the coffee immediately became lighter in colour.
So I stopped at half. I was surprised that amount is enough already.
The coffee tasted so much better and nicer.

Tried their French toast - Warning, the white ball is not ice cream but a ball of cream!
Not exactly my favourite.

This! The ordinary looking tomato omu rice. I had my first bite, and I loved it. The egg was so soft and bouncy. The rice tasted fragrant and not overly sweet.
Would totally come back for this!
Haven really tasted a tomato fried rice so nice. :):)

Dazzling Cafe Singapore

Finally, after trying for 2 attempts, I did get to try Dazzling café newly opened in 2015.
I went there around late afternoon twice and the queue was just too long.

Today, after collecting our Shape Run race pack, we decided to go and queue.
We were the first! haha... Right after us there were 3 other couple who came shortly and the time was only 11.40am.

Note: It's only open at 12PM.
Located at Capitol Piazza, there's a new entrance from the underground at City Hall MRT.

Everywhere seem instagram worthy! Didn't really take a lot of photos as we were talking non-stop. hahaa.. It was so good to catch up!

Food wise, we order the aglio olio with scallops and crabmeat.
It was fragrant because the garlic was very crispy. Not the usual garlic smell.
It wasn't too oily as well, unexpectedly taste good!

Next is Spicy Seafood Tomyum Tomato, which states Singapore's exclusive. Guess maybe Taiwan don't have...
This does taste a bit of spicy, and a little over sourish because of the Tomyum.
But the sauce really does taste great.
In fact, I think this is better than the Aglio Olio!

And of course, desserts!!! We ordered the Mango and Coconut Gelato Honey Toast.
It's similar to Shibuya, the toast is a thick block with butter.
Inside it, it has already pre-cut cubes for convenience eating.
There's different level of your toast - Soft, Normal, Crispy.
We took the normal and it was already crispy. So for starters if you haven been there, better take normal cause later crispy may end up too hard for you...

Personally, I prefer After You in Bangkok than this, but locally, I think this is the closest you get to eat a good honey toast.
Too bad the walls of the toast is not crispy to eat, and there's not enough mango sauce and mango itself.

I would definitely come back again if I have no Bangkok trips anymore.. hahaha

I had a happy brunch with my dear Sylvia!!! :)

Dean & Deluca Orchard Central

We haven't had many dates since April cause we were just too busy and catching up with so many other things.
So, after bugging him for such a long time, we managed to have a 1 "us" time together and finally got to watch The Avengers like after soooo long.

Had to give him an early call just to make sure he won't be late for our date. Yes, he sleeps a lot. haha
And, he also says I sleep very little. That's a huge difference for both of us.hahaa...

Headed over to Dean & Deluca at Orchard Central for a nice quiet brunch.
I didn't wanna go to one that required long waiting time and noisy crowd, hence decided on this!

Any time is a good time for rainbow cakes! hehe...
This rainbow cake has a very strong grape taste which I think it came from the purple layer.
Apparently I read somewhere that it uses fresh fruits to induce the colour.
Don't know true anot, but grape definitely is one of it.
It's not dense, so you won't feel like eating until very jelat.

Had a savoury breakfast - the caramel fresh toast with ice cream and fruits.
It was nice at first, but after eating towards the end, it felt jelat.
Both of us shared this and we couldn't finished too.
The bread is too dry on its own, and the caramel syrup wasn't enough.

Overall I felt the place is quiet which is good for long chats and relaxing morning, but for food wise, wasn't very fantastic for its price.
Definitely preferred my Percolate coffee, and cakes. :)

Sin Lee Foods

Sin Lee Food
Blk 4 Jalan Bukit Ho Swee

My first time venturing out to Tiong Bahru area to eat brunch.
Went with Irene for her birthday treat and she suggested this new place.

This place is quite easily found. Around 5 min walk from Tiong Bahru Mrt, exit towards the taxi stand, turn right to a T-junction, then turn left. Then it's Jalan Bukit Ho Swee. Turn right and just keep walking until you see SEAB, Singapore Exam & Assessment Board. Slightly further up, you will see the carpark gantry and a stairway right beside it. Walk up the stairway, the shop is on your right.

The menu is quite limited, one page only. haha... but there's a lot of description of what each food is.
You will have to order at the counter, but they will serve the food to you.

One of the decorative wall - using old Chinese calendars. Looks... erm. to me.

We ordered the unusual and unique dishes that hardly can be found elsewhere.
Salted Egg Sweet Potato Fries.
Savoury fries. The taste is quite nice and unique on its own. I dunno where else can find lah.
But it's good for sharing only because it's quite jelat if you have it by yourself.

Another savoury unique dish - Sin Lee's Fried Chicken & Waffles
So weird combi right?!
But the chicken was very delicious!!!! So tender and juicy!
The waffles was so-so only though.

We ordered mini doughnuts for desserts, but meh... very normal.
It's freshly made to order, but I felt they used cooked oil to deep fry, cause it didn't look golden and didn't smell fragrant.
But the ice cream was fantastic!!! :p

Probably not going back anymore though. Nothing for me to crave.

Do head over while it's new! cause we went ard 11plus, there wasn't much crowd, and had a good time chatting away leisurely! :)

To-gather cafe at Bedok North

A short post before I fly off to Bangkok later with the boy. Finally!
oh, and I crossed my probation of 6mths in my new company (wow!)

This growing café was introduced by Carole (yes, again haha).. and GGH and I went there for 2 times in a week!

Well, we went there the first time for light dinner meal so it was good (GGH actually says yum!), and decided to make time to try other mains.

What I love about this café is the decorations in the café. Very cheerful and positive feel.
All very picture worthy, but it is crowded (on both times) so didn't get to take much pictures.

The Pork Cordon Bleu ($10.90) - One of their best sellers.
GGH loves this... the cheese was oozing out. I love the salad dressing! Wonders what sauce is that.
The portion may be small for a big appetite (considering I think I can finish all by myself :p)

The 2nd time we went, he tried the Spaghetti Carbonara ($7.90) which wasn't very milky.
Not much sauce, but you can taste the carbonara. Not a favourite if you like lots of sauce.

My main was Grilled hamburger steak ($11.90). It didn't felt like steak, but really like the meat in the burgers. Very soft, don't even need a knife to cut. I preferred the carbonara to this - even though I'm not a fan of carbonara. I hardly order carbonara for the fear of too milky taste.

A must try!!!! Warm chocolate lava cake with vanilla gelato ($5.90)
MY FAVOURITE!!!!
I can have this all by myself!!!
Worth the calories. :)

Pulau Ubin + Chock Full of Beans

Quick update before my dinner. Today was an exercise day! Went to Pulau Ubin for cycling early in the morning!
Woke up earlier than my usual work days ... hahaha...
But was glad that the rest are also onz to have breakfast together!

Met at 8.15am for breakfast at change village before taking the boat to Pulau Ubin.
The boat ride cost $2.50 (single trip) and additional $2.00 for bicycle.

Think we too long didn't ride slopes.. this time round it felt tougher than my usual ECP cycling... haha... I came down and walked with my bike for those steep slopes. hehe...
However, we all felt that we rode faster to Chek Java cause it took less than 30min.

Took a shot along the way back after Chek Java; peaceful mangrove.

Selfie with a good camera by Sylvia!
So tempted to get such camera!!! But I'm sure it cost quite a bomb. bleh... :(
Shall save up for next year purchase (hopefully!)

After burning fats, we went to Chock Full of Beans which is nearby for brunch! It's famous for its 3D art lattes! :)

We ordered a few to share since we weren't really hungry..

Buttermilk waffle with caramelized banana. It's okay, not too sweet, but I think Udders waffles are still the best. haha.. But this was good enough for me cause I didn't expect it would pass.

Nachos cheese. No need to order this. I think GV nachos are better.

Chock Full of Big Breakfast.
This was big. Good for sharing. The bread actually taste good on its own! The sausage weren't salty too. But the eggs were..... soso only. Had better ones elsewhere.

Portobello Mushroom!
It looks black and burnt, but it was surprisingly good and juicy!

We actually order a salad but I think we were busy taking pictures of the coffee that we neglected the best food!
The chicken mesquite salad was the best! The sauce with a little spice marinated was so good!
Must try!!!

And here comes the 3D art we requested!
Note that 3D art is subject to availability of the barista, and it takes about 30minutes for them to come. Also, a table cannot have all 3D art, you will need to ask the waiter to check with the barista.
We had 7 people, and 4 had 3D art. Fair enough I felt.
Oh, and the 3D art is only for Ice coffees (excl. black coffee and rose flavoured).

I think the bear is the cutest!!!! :)

I think the food and the coffee is not bad to come another time. And no need to queue too!
p/s: they sell ciders and beers too! ;p

Mrs. Pho

On Friday, we went on a simple dinner date.

So, decided to bring him to a new place that was recommended by Carole, my new friend in Nestle.
And, I was craving for Vietnam food after trying the horrible one at Bedok Mall, think it's called Pho House.

Mrs. Pho
349 Beach Road
It's opposite Concourse. And very convenient by train, 5 min walk from Nicoll Highway.

The deco is very simple and not fanciful at all.

The prices are quite affordable, $7.90 for a simple bowl of noodle soup.

The shy boy.

I ordered the Special beef combination noodle soup $8.90.
Came with a small bowl of egg soup. Nice!

The soup broth tasted authentic and light. Way better than Pho House.
But I think nam nam taste better though. Maybe because it is more flavourful.

The Hanoi Meat Balls $3.00.
Most expensive item on the table.
4 small balls but $3?!

I didn't really like it cause I find it too oily.
But the meat and sauce is really good. If only they cut down on the oil..

GGH's Rice with pork chop, viet ham and fried egg.
It looked super normal that I didn't even try except for the sauce.
The sauce is sedap though.

I would say this is value for money and simple fare, something I would come back for if I was craving for Vietnam food and if I didn't want to queue for Nam Nam.
My 2nd favourite Vietnam food now. :)
It's hard to find good Vietnam food okay...

Anyway, since it was early, we toured around the kampong glam area because it's been a long time since I last went, and it's quite happening during evening. I'm surprised that there were so many food area and it's like a small Clarke quay by itself. Lots of drinking place.

Chanced upon a colourful wall and did a shot.
Happy Friday!

It's the month of August already!
And next week, I'm turning 28!
So fast hor...
I'm depreciating........ x_x
